Hip Replacement Surgery:
Case 1:
63 year old male
with pain in both hips and his back. He has trouble putting his shoes and
socks on. He has pain at the end of the day if he is active and he has
trouble going to sleep. He denies any numbness or weakness in his legs.

The images above show severe hip arthritis in both
hips. The left hip (hip on the right side of the screen) has more severe
arthitis than the left. There are large cysts in both the ball and socket
in this hip. Below I have included images that were taken after he had
both of his hips replaced. I do not do both hips at the same time. I
require a minimum of 12 weeks between surgery to give patients a chance to fully
recover from the first operation before proceeding on to the next. The
patient did very well and is now walking without a cane or walker.

Case 2;
Below are the images
of a patient in his early fifties. He had a motorcycle accident in the
70's and broke his right hip. He required two operations to get the hip
bone to
heal. If you look closely you can see a broke screw from the first
operation.
The two images above are the same. I colored the broken
screw green on the right. Before I could perform a hip replacement all of
the screws had to be removed. The broken screw made the removal more
difficult.

A large hole was created in the bone when I removed the
screw. (see arrow above) I packed the hole with bone graft and we waited 3
months. I then performed a total hip arthroplasty. (images below)
The hole in the bone healed and is barely visible.
